Riverbend is a unique school! It runs on a year-round, multi track calendar, and all classes are multi aged.The multi track calendar attracts families and teachers who are willing to do things differently. There are four different tracks, three of which are in the school at any one time. Every four weeks one track will go off and one track will return to school. Each class at Riverbend is multi aged. All classes are created in a mixed format, with year ones and twos together, threes and fours together, and fives and sixes together. This allows older students to act as excellent leaders and role models for younger students. It also allows teachers to become very familiar with the individual needs of each of their students as the children may be with the same teacher for two years in a row. Research demonstrates that students in multi aged classrooms do as well or better than their peers in one-grade level classrooms academically and better in the areas of social and emotional growth.
