Subject Question
What projects are you working on right know? Thanks
Jorden W.
The following are questions from David's web site that he gets asked often, so we avoided asking these ourselves.
Where were you born? - I was born in Northern Saskatchewan
on the Canadian Prairie. I spent my youth at College Mathieu, a private school
in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan.
Did you like school? Were you a good student? - I was a
good boy. I sang in the choir and performed in numerous extra-curricular singing
related events. I played all sports. I was kind to everyone. And no, I did not
particularity like school and because I had a learning disability, I had to
work extra hard to succeed.
Did you always want to be a writer? - I never wanted to
be a writer, in fact, I don't remember ever wanting to be a teacher either -
which I was for 18 years before becoming a principal for eleven years! I didn'
t start to read until I was 27 and I didn't write until ten years later.
When did you start to write? I wrote my first book when
I was 37. I had been reading for ten years and felt that I had ideas that would
interest others.
Which of your books is your favorite? When you read about
the artist who illustrated If Sarah Will Take Me, you'll understand why I chose
it. ...however, I love anything and everything that I've ever done with Yang!
Where do you get your ideas? I love art and began writing
because I wanted children to be able to access beautiful art. Since then, my
ideas have come from the events in my life. You simply have to follow my books
to know what I am doing in my life. My upcoming book Fairy, hints of how I pulled
teeth when I was a principal. My new Chinese book tells of the friendship and
admiration I have for Yang. Notes to my daugher speaks for itself.
Who is YOUR favorite author? Oscar Wilde is my favorite
author but I've rarely read anything of Cynthia Rylant's that I've not really
liked. If you've not read her collection of Xmas stories, do! It' s entitled
Children of Christmas.
What is your favorite book? I'm loving Harry Potter. Later on in my website, I've included a list of my favorite 25 books. If you care to see my list, click on the key you'll find when reading about Voices from the Wild, in Chapter Two.
