VISITS THE CALGARY TOWER
Part
one
The
Calgary Tower was officially opened on June 30th, 1968 in downtown Calgary.
The Calgary Tower was built in 1967 to celebrate Calgary's 100th birthday.
Since 1968, the Calgary Tower has been the city's most famous land mark.
Even today, the Calgary Tower is still the fourth tallest structure in
Calgary. Tourists like coming to the Calgary Tower because they can see
all around the city from one spot - 191 metres up! The Calgary Tower was
not named the Calgary Tower it was called the Husky Tower because Husky
Oil was really great, and was famous.
Part
two
Throughout the 1988 Winter Olympic Games, a torch was lit on
the tip of the Calgary Tower. This torch burned throughout the entire
Olympics. The torch is still lit, but only on special occasions. The torch
on top of the tower was turned on recently to celebrate Vancouver's winning
of the 2010 Winter Olympics!
Part
three
The Calgary Tower cost 3.5 million dollars originally. Since then, it
has cost another 2 million dollars to fix up. We think that it would be
fun to work in the Calgary Tower. We chose this project because we were
interested in the Calgary Tower!
Part
four
Mike, Stephen, and Stanley think that the Calgary Tower will be torn down
and the city will build a new one even taller to be the tallest building
once more.
