Our Log Cabin

This log cabin was created by the students in room 3.  We were inspired by our study of the Inglis family in Little House in the Big Woods, by Laura Inglis Wilder.  We created the family's log home and the smoke house just as Charles Inglis had in the book.  We hung our food in the attic, made a smoke house, and designed the home to look just as the book described it.  We made both the cabin and smoke house with tri-folds.  Together we designed, built, and painted our incredible log home.

Pioneers of Alberta would often have to live in sod homes until they could afford the enormous cost of lumber to build a log home.  Since trees are scarce in the prairies, the pioneers would have to use the land the best that they could to survive.
