Fort Calgary was built in 1875. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police lived in Fort Calgary. They put their poles in vertically and dug them in 3 feet so they would not have to use nails. In 1882 Fort Calgary was torn down. It was replaced with a new building, and then a fire destroyed the men's barracks. A two-story building replaced it. It lasted till 1914,and then the Pacific Railway co. bought the land. In 1975 the citizens of Calgary reclaimed the land in celebration of Calgary's centennial. Then a significant amount of Fort Calgary remains were found, and Fort Calgary historic park was born. The people of Calgary are building an exact replica of the fort. I hope you enjoy my other classmate's reports.
