plains title Shield

headdress image

The native shield was made from buffalo skin that was scraped. The shield was designed to protect the warrior from arrows and such. Each shield had a different picture that tells the story of their family. (Circles mean life.)

At war they carried the shields more for the power of their family inside than the shields protection! The shields story came to the owner during the night time or what they call "dreamtime."
