Our Inquiry Focus
Construction has begun this week at Evergreen School as our field gets turned into a beautiful naturalization area. The Grade 2 team is the official school photographers for documenting the changes we see happening.
We are excited to see how our school landscape will change. Each day, the star helpers in our class will take photos during our morning break of the process. Check back daily to see what’s happening! Please read this safety message.
Day #1 of Construction - Tuesday, October 4th, 2011
Fences are set up to block off a safe area for the construction workers to do their job.
Day #2 of Construction - Wednesday, October 5th, 2011
Trees and construction equipment arrive.
Day #3 of Construction - Thursday, October 6th, 2011
What a rainy day! Big boulders and evergreen trees have arrived. We see lots of digging.
Day #4 of Construction - Tuesday, October 11th, 2011
It looks like our workers have been very busy over the long weekend! We can see many changes to our naturalization area. The boulders are being set in place for our outdoor learning amphitheatre, the pebbles are being moved in place for our dry stream and many of the trees have been planted. We notice a variety of coniferous (trees with needles and cones) and deciduous (trees with leaves) trees. The backhoes are very busy digging!
Day #5 of Construction - Wednesday, October 12th, 2011
Construction is progressing nicely! The outdoor classroom (amphitheater) is coming together well and the pathways are now visible.
Day #6 of Construction - Thursday, October 13th, 2011
We see more progress happening today. We can see our plan in action. The workers are very kind and hardworking! They even throw our balls back when we accidentally loose them over the fence.
Day #8 of Construction - Monday, October 17th, 2011
Ooops! We forgot to take pictures of the progress made last Friday for day #7.
Today we see many workers arranging and setting the boulders into their finals spots. It looks like hard work. There is also lots of dirt being moved around. We can’t wait to see what it will look like when it’s finished!
Day #9 of Construction - Tuesday, October 18th, 2011
It looks like the workers are beginning the final stages of our plan. We see bark mulch and soil being arranged neatly around the bases of the trees. They use a small backhoe to move the soil. We see that they are still working on our outdoor classroom.
Day #10 of Construction - Thursday, October 20th, 2011
Sorry folks! We missed out in documenting the changes yesterday because we were on our fieldtrip. But wow! What progress we see today!! It looks like our workers are almost done. Today we saw them raking and watering the new sod. The bark mulch looks so bright and new. We are planning to plant crocus bulbs soon so that they blossom after winter and make our naturalization area even more beautiful. More plants will also be planted in the spring too.
Day #12 of Construction - Monday, October 24th, 2011
We see that some special log borders have been set up. We are really excited to play on these!
Monday, November 8th, 2011
Today the weather warmed up in the afternoon so we decided it was time to plant our crocus bulbs. It was challenging to find the right spot to plant them because the orange fence was still up so we couldn’t plant in our new naturalization area just yet. Many of our classes decided to plant in the tress wells because this ground is softer than the grass. However, due to our recent cold weather, the ground was already a little frozen! Our teachers used big shovels to dig small holes for us. We planted our bulbs in small clusters. We are excited to watch for them to blossom in the spring.
