Graphs and Charts
Excel provides a 'Chart/Graph' feature to present data in chart or graph form. The charts/graphs can be included on the worksheets that have data included or the charts/graphs can be located on seperate worksheets.

Creating a simple 'Column Graph':

Excel 'Chart Wizard' enables you to create a variety of types and shapes of charts and graphs. The example below will create a 'Column' chart. The same procedures are used to create the many other types of charts and graphs.
  • highlight data in the worksheet to be graphed
  • select Chart Wizard icon in top task bar (see diagram 1)
  • Chart Wizard box will display
  • select type of 'Chart' wanted (Column, Bar, Linr, etc)
  • various types of charts will display in Chart sub-type section
  • select 'Chart sub-type'
  • click Next



  • Chart Source Data displays (see diagram 2)
  • select Columns or Row display for chart, choice will appear in 'Data Display' pane



  • click Next to display Chart Options window (see Diagram 3)
  • type in 'X' and 'Y' axis titles
  • select Option Tabs to add various other features to chart



  • in 'Diagram 4' (see below) several Options were applied:
    • Gridlines Tab - Major Gridlines selected
    • Legend Tab - Right position selected
    • Data Labels Tab - Show value selected

  • as Options are selected the changes will display in Chart Optinos window
  • when all Options done, click 'Next'



  • Chart Location window will display
  • if 'As new sheet' is selected the chart will be located on a seperate worksheet from where data is located
  • if 'As object in is selected the chart will be located on the same worksheet that has the data in it



  • when chart displayed on worksheet chart can be resized and moved by moving the chart border squares (see Diagram 6)
  • when chart placed in desired location in worksheet, color can be applied to the chart
  • click on any item within the chart and small squares will appear to indicate those items are selected for color
  • the following chart items can be colored and/or changed:
    • chart background
    • columns within chart
    • any text, including titles



  • NOTE: changes to the chart can still be made even though the chart has been completed by selecting Chart in the top Tool Bar (see diagram 7 below)
